Funding Model

Rotary International is a global organisation with infrastructure at a Club, District and International level to support its members.

  • Our club fees are modest but cover our administration costs such as for communication (Zoom, domain name, website), bank & audit fees. There is an $80 joining fee to cover various costs including a personalised polo shirt, and an environmentally friendly name badge.
  • District fees cover our insurance, leadership training and support from District leaders.
  • Rotary International fees cover the My Rotary platform, the Learning and Development platform, RI staff support and resource development
There is also a small fee for the national or international Rotary magazine.

Is $30 a month too much to ask? There are no other costs apart from the joining fee.

What is a Satellite Club?

A Satellite club is a Rotary club but does not have a “charter”. The constitution of the Sponsor club provides the framework for the Satellite club which is semi-autonomous within that framework

The Satellite may well have a different meeting experience or format, and offer service opportunities and membership experiences that appeal to a smaller, focused group

The ultimate aim of the Satellite club may be to charter as an independent Rotary club once it has at least 20 members.

A Passport to What?

Sunshine Coast Passport Rotary is a satellite of the Rotary Club of Alexandra Headland but shares the ideals embraced by ‘Passport’ clubs. Rotary International has endorsed many new forms of club types, and members have the same rights and privileges as Rotarians in traditional clubs.

The ‘Passport’ model has these ideals:

Flexibility, affordability, accessibility and innovation

Fewer in-person meetings

A ‘passport’ to visit other Rotary clubs and take part in their activities and projects

Allows young professionals and others to make Rotary fit their busy lives, engaging in service in ways that fit their family, work and life commitments

The structures may be different, but the underlying reason people become members of Rotary is the same – Rotarians are dedicated people who want to make a difference in their communities and in the world,

A Satellite Club with Passport ambitions

As a Satellite Club embracing ‘passport’ ideals, Sunshine Coast Passport Rotary presents a new version of Rotary that encourages members to engage in service in ways that fit within their family, work and life commitments.

Rotary’s Causes

From Passport to Satellite

We are excited to announce …

We are excited to announce that the Rotary Satellite Club of Alexandra Headland – Sunshine Coast Passport is the newest Rotary club on the Queensland Sunshine Coast, Australia.

Discussions with the Rotary Club of Alexandra Headland resulted in agreement for that club to sponsor Sunshine Coast Passport Rotary as a new Satellite club – effective from 1 July 2021.

The intention is that as a Satellite Club, ‘Sunshine Coast Passport Rotary’ will continue its growth and eventually charter as a standalone Rotary club.

Both clubs are excited!

Meetings are being held in a social setting on the 4th Sunday of each month, and online on the 2nd Monday.

What does that mean?

Sunshine Coast Passport Rotary has become well known to many of the local Rotary clubs and other NFPs through its volunteering efforts, always turning up when a helping hand was needed at a Rotary community event on the Coast.

That will not change nor will the innovation and flexibility it offers so that members can volunteer in ways that suit them.  In fact there’s not much that will change except that the Sunshine Coast Passport Rotary will be strengthened considerably through the sponsorship of Alex Rotary.

The Rotary Satellite Club of Alexandra Headland – Sunshine Coast Passport will continue to be available to help other clubs’ volunteering efforts.
